Scotch Eggs

 

Legend has it that Scotch eggs were invented at the London department store Fortnum & Mason in 1738 and Victorian high society enjoyed them as part of picnic baskets on their way to Ascot races. Now a stalwart of motorway service stations, they came into their own as "a substantial meal" served in pubs during lockdown.
